Yes, Open Spin Wheel automatically saves your wheel configurations. Every change you make—adding options, removing items, changing colors, adjusting weights—is instantly saved in your browser's local storage. When you return to the site on the same device and browser, your previous setup will be waiting for you.
How Automatic Saving Works
Open Spin Wheel uses your browser's local storage to persist your configuration. This means:
- No account required: Your settings are saved locally, not on our servers
- Instant saving: Changes are saved as you make them—no need to click a save button
- Persistent: Your wheel remains saved even after closing the browser or restarting your computer
- Private: All data stays in your browser; we never collect or transmit your configurations
Using Your Saved Wheel on Other Devices
Since configurations are saved locally, they won't automatically appear on other devices. To transfer your wheel:
- Click the Share button in the wheel interface
- Copy the generated URL (it contains your full configuration)
- Open that URL on any other device or browser
- The wheel will load with all your settings intact
You can bookmark these URLs or save them in a document to maintain a library of different wheel configurations.
Managing Multiple Wheels
Open Spin Wheel saves one configuration at a time in your browser. To work with multiple wheels:
- Use Share URLs: Create a unique URL for each wheel configuration and bookmark them
- Export and Import: Use the Export feature (CSV/TXT) to save your options externally, then re-import when needed
- Browser Profiles: Use different browser profiles or devices for different wheel setups
What Happens When You Clear Browser Data
If you clear your browser cache, cookies, or local storage, your saved wheel configuration will be removed. To prevent data loss:
- Create a Share URL before clearing browser data
- Export your options as a backup
- Take a screenshot of your wheel setup
You can restore your wheel by opening the Share URL or re-importing your exported file.
Privacy and Data Security
Your wheel configurations are stored entirely in your browser. Open Spin Wheel does not:
- Send your data to any server
- Require user accounts or authentication
- Track your wheel configurations
- Share your data with third parties
This local-first approach ensures complete privacy and works even when you're offline.
Tips for Power Users
- Create templates: Set up wheels for common use cases (classroom activities, meeting decisions, raffles) and save the Share URLs
- Use descriptive names: Add a title in the wheel options to identify each configuration
- Test before important events: Open your saved wheel a day before to ensure everything works as expected
- Backup critical configurations: Export options to a text file for wheels you use regularly
Troubleshooting
My wheel disappeared after updating the browser: Some browser updates clear local storage. Use a Share URL to restore your configuration.
The wheel doesn't load on my phone: Local storage is device-specific. Use the Share feature to transfer your setup.
I accidentally cleared my configuration: Unfortunately, cleared local storage cannot be recovered. This is why we recommend creating Share URLs as backups.
